How to Turn Off Uploads in Common File Sharing Programs Welcome to our tutorial on turning off uploads in your file sharing program! The three most common file sharing programs are LimeWire, Kazaa, and Bear Share and this tutorial explains how to turn off uploads for these programs. Turning off uploads does not effect your ability to download, it just prevents unknown users from accessing files from your computer, and will help the bandwidth, or speed, of your connection. The reason that we should turn off uploads on your program is because they are nearly impossible to block. If your file sharing program is not listed here, go to www.google.com and search for "turning off uploads for <program name>." LimeWire Start the lime wire program; On the top menu selects Tools/Options: Choose the upload tab: Two categories Basic and Slots Tabs: Upload Basic > uncheck clear uploads > Move the upload bandwidth to 0 > Uncheck partial sharing CLICK APPLY Slots > Uploads per person change to 0 > Max uploads slots change to 0 Shutdown > Select shutdown after transfers, this will shutdown the program after all the transfers are complete so the program doesn’t continually try to run as a server. Advanced > Change the preferences to disallow freeloaders! Kazaa Start the Kazaa program; On the top menu select Tools/Options: Tabs: Sharing > Uncheck share files in my shared folder Advanced > Change the traffic limits: Max upload 0 > Uncheck optimal bandwidth for uploads Privacy > Uncheck allow others to browse my shared file Bear Share Start the bear share program; On the top menu select Setup/Uploads Tabs: Sharing > Uncheck share from my library > Uncheck enable partial file sharing > Set continuous connection to 0 > Uncheck allow others to browse my folders Bit Torrent Start/Programs/Bit Torrent/Downloader > slide the upload arrow to dial-up speed. Disclaimer We do not intend for this tutorial to in any way to criticize or discourage the use of file sharing programs, users of file sharing programs, or makers of file sharing programs. Wavelength offers the tutorial only as a suggested source to better improve your internet connection by making alterations to how you use file sharing programs. The suggestions for turning off downloading on your file sharing program are voluntary, but highly recommended. If for any reason you do not agree with our tutorial, or have suggestions to improve it, please e-mail comments@wavelengthmail.com. *SPECIAL NOTE Most Peer to Peer usage (file sharing) is against the law because it involves the sharing of copyrighted materials without permission from the copyright owner, usually music (MP3) or movie files, but also TV programs, books and images. Wavelength does not support or condone this form of copyright violation. |
