What is fixed wireless broadband technology?
Fixed wireless broadband technology provides high speed Internet access without cable, fiber optic or phone line connections. Data is transmitted wirelessly allowing for two-way transmission of data, voice and video.

How does the service work?
Broadband service is delivered through Wavelength's backbone network. The network is tied into access points currently being established throughout eastern North Carolina. From these access points, "last mile" delivery of service is achieved through a variety of flexible options. Here are some of the options available to our subscribers

Point to Multipoint (PTM) - PTM is a service designed with residential neighborhoods and single-family homes, and businesses in mind. Bandwidth is transmitted from an access point to a receiver (subscriber unit) at your premises. An access point can service as many as 100 subscriber units at the same time. The subscriber unit is incorporated into an antenna that can be mounted in your window, on your roof - anywhere high enough to be in line of sight (LOS) or near line of sight (NLOS) of the access point. The subscriber unit comes with a power lead and an Ethernet cable that plugs into your computer or network hub.

Wi-Fi Surfspot - A Wavelength Surfspot is the perfect model for delivering broadband to apartment complexes, manufactured home parks, shopping malls, restaurants, any place where a cluster of subscribers might be found. The bandwidth is transmitted from an access point to a local distribution point or a surf point. The surf point can be established through the use of a number of consumer-level wireless-certified routing devices. The surf point then provides access to any computer system within a given SurfSpot radius using a wireless network adapter.

Power line - Transmission of the braodband signal can be achieved through either PTM or surf point technology. Once at the subscriber level, power outlet network adapters utilize the existing electrical lines in your facility to establish a network within your home or business, distributing broadband access to computers throughout the building.

How fast is the download time with Wavelength service?
Wavelength connection is provisioned to provide a consistent connection speed based on the level of service deployed. We believe you will find our connections to be consistently faster than traditional bandwidth providers.

Does rain or other weather conditions affect service?
No, our service is not affected by weather. The Wavelength is too large and is transparent to rain, snow, fog and sleet.
We do not suffer the same issues as Satellite providers as our wireless service travels short distances (a few miles) versus having to come down through the atmosphere.
